RESEARCH
For this project, we had to pick a notable person from Cincinnati to create a poster about.
I decided on Marian Spencer, a civil rights icon. Most widely known for leading the effort to desegregate Coney Island.
The project began with the process of collecting images that would serve as inspiration as we began to develop ideas for our Posters.
What stood out was the exaggeration of the type to make it into a focal point or an image in itself. I also like the distortion of the images or type in the poster; it makes it look more intriguing and captures my attention for longer.
Starting with a hands-on approach, I played around with hierarchy as well as texture with text, creating a mix of images that I could refer back to during the process
Sketches
I moved on to sketching, aiming to replicate the energy of the styles that I thought were successful from the benchmarks and create more ideas based on my research.
Initial Iterations
I came up with some digital drafts for the poster, focusing on making the type the main focus and finding creative ways to use it while still making it pleasing.
Refinement
Moving on to refinement, I focused on making a structure with the body copy and overall just making it look more appealing and easier to follow.
